Blurring the lines between brick and mortar spaces, nature, retail and design; Bombaim creates a surreal show space where the visitor is in harmony with art and dynamism. The design accounts for retail as well as artefacts collected from artists' studios and vintage markets from around the world
The ground floor houses ready-to-wear and pret, while the first floor is dedicated to bridal and couture designers. Always meant to be more than just a storefront, the property has a terrace, an amphitheatre and a garden for pop-ups, events, live music and sit-down dinners -- a vibrant community hub for personalised experiences curated by Bombaim
Richa Kanoi, founder and creative director, talks Bombaim stories and spaces —
"Bombaim is Bombay (now Mumbai) — the city that I was born in and a place that has my heart. The original Bombaim store was housed in a colonial era bungalow, where my grandfather-in-law started his journey; when you walked in, ‘there was a magic’ and history that made you want to explore it even more. When we reached a level that required more square-footage, I intrinsically found myself searching for that dynamism and energy, instead of focusing on the specifications — much like the name of its inspiration city"
Bombaim's new coordinates redefine the city landscape -- lined amongst decade-old indigenous trees and heritage Bengali bungalows, the space is deceivingly familiar at the onset. With an imaginative and adaptive reuse of the original structure, Bombaim retains much of that old world charm of grand doorways and sun-drenched verandahs while adding modernity through complex explorations in patterned cement and lime plaster. Designed for discovery; to delight and surprise you at every turn, an open-to-sky glass atrium creates light and beckons you to explore upwards.
Inspired by the classical, new and now; minimal — maximal — Bombaim creates a beautiful, intriguing life in its somewhat whimsical theatre
